Abstract

ChatGPT, an AI generative tool, has rapidly disrupted the education landscape since its availability in November 2022. As more countries and regions explore the potential of AI tools in education, it is vital to navigate the opportunities and challenges that arise from their use. This talk will provide an overview of Singapore’s policy announcements and deliberations for guiding the use of ChatGPT in K-12 schools and universities. Additionally, it will offer personal reflections on the broader implications of AI generative tools for the future of education. By sharing Singapore’s experience and perspectives, this talk aims to contribute to the ongoing discussion on how educators and policymakers can best harness the potential of AI tools in education.

Professor LOOI Chee-Kit's bio

Looi Chee Kit is a Professor with the Learning Sciences and Assessment Academic Group in the National Institute of Education (NIE) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He is currently the Co-Director of the Center for Research and Development into Learning (CRDL) of NIE, NTU. He was the Founding Head of the Learning Sciences Lab (LSL) of NIE, the first research center devoted to the study of the sciences of learning in the Asia-Pacific region. He is a Fellow of the International Society of Learning Sciences, and a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education.
